Music, Cannabis, and High Frequencies Collide at the Cowboy Cup
Oklahoma’s Cowboy Cup was buzzing with energy, creativity, and culture—and right in the middle of it all was a powerful crossover of music and cannabis. Reporting live from the Dime installation, I had the opportunity to sit down with renowned musician and producer David Electric, a longtime member of the Grammy Award–winning reggae band Steel Pulse.
From the moment you step into the space, the vibe is undeniable. As I told him on camera, “When I tell you this is fire, this is fire.” And David Electric embodies that same frequency—uplifting, intentional, and deeply rooted in artistry.
An Oklahoma Vibe with Worldwide Energy
For David, Oklahoma brought something special.
“It’s an amazing vibe here. It’s just pure energy, really.”
That energy aligns perfectly with his musical background. David has toured the world for over 13 years with Steel Pulse, a legendary roots reggae band originally formed in England. Though he hails from Southern California, his musical reach is global—and constantly expanding.
Beyond touring, David is also a prolific music producer who embraces all genres. Whether collaborating with other artists or releasing solo work, creativity remains at the center of everything he does.
Where Music and Cannabis Meet
One of the most compelling parts of our conversation was the natural connection between music and cannabis—a pairing that feels almost inseparable.
David explained why partnering with Dime felt authentic:
“Their whole slogan—Think Higher—really resonates with me. Best ingredients, no chemicals, no pesticides, just pure cannabis. I’m all about that high life and about companies that truly support artists.”
Dime’s commitment to wellness, creativity, and community stood out to him—not just for musicians, but for artists and athletes of all kinds.
“CBD, THC—it’s what we need. Dime brings the healing, and we just plant the seed.”
The Frequency of Reggae
As someone who vividly remembers the first time reggae music took over my spirit, I had to ask why reggae hits so differently.
David summed it up simply:
“It’s the frequency. The high frequency. The essence of uplifting your spirit.”
And that’s exactly what reggae does—it brings you home to yourself.
Culture, Community, and the Plant
Coming from California to Oklahoma might sound like culture shock, but David sees strong similarities.
“California is a melting pot, and I see that same diversity here—especially in the cannabis community. It’s worldwide, people from all walks of life. The plant brings us together.”
New Music and Creative Freedom
David believes the music industry is in one of its most exciting eras—especially for independent artists.
“You don’t need a major label or a major studio anymore. I’ve been creating at home.”
Among his recent and upcoming projects:
- “Pulling Up for the Champions” – a collaboration with professional surfers on the WSL tour
- “Punto Roca” – recorded in El Salvador, inspired by a legendary surf break
- “San Clemente” – a tribute to his hometown in California
- “Think Higher” – written and produced for Dime, performed live at the Cowboy Cup
Music as the Soundtrack to Life
Music doesn’t just entertain—it shapes how we live. I shared how growing up, music turned everyday chores into moments of spiritual renewal.
That resonated deeply with David.
“We all have music within us. We all have a song. If you follow your heart and do it purely for the love, the possibilities are endless.”
What’s Next for 2026
David Electric has big plans ahead:
- Releasing one new song and video every month throughout 2026
- World touring with Steel Pulse
- A 50th Anniversary Live Album celebrating the band’s historic legacy
“A lot of really good things are coming.”
