Next door to Proud Mary Cannabis, the Blue Note was filled with family, friends, music, and memories.
This wasn’t the quiet, somber room people often imagine when they think of a celebration of life. It was a reflection of the woman everyone had gathered to honor.
There were life-size KISS cutouts on the stage. A laughing Jesus statue throwing the rock-and-roll hand sign. Tables covered with concert T-shirts, buttons, and memorabilia from shows she had actually attended over the years. It wasn’t a display of someone else’s idea of who she was it was her life, her passions, and her personality on full display.
People cried.
People laughed.
People told stories.
Exactly the way she wanted.
Her daughter, Tara, included Proud Mary Cannabis to be part of the celebration by providing prerolls for guests during the repast. It was a simple gesture, but one that spoke volumes about how far medical cannabis has come in Oklahoma.
As I stood in the room, it struck me that cannabis wasn’t the centerpiece of the day. It wasn’t a statement or a spectacle.
It was simply part of life.
Part of gathering.
Part of remembering.
Part of helping people slow down long enough to share stories, hug one another, and celebrate someone who left a lasting mark on everyone in the room.
Moments like these remind us what community dispensaries really become over time.
We’re not just places where people purchase medicine.
We’re places people trust.
They come to us after difficult diagnoses.
Before family cookouts.
For birthdays.
For weekends at the lake.
And sometimes, they invite us into one of the hardest days a family will ever experience.
That kind of trust isn’t built through advertising. It’s built one conversation, one recommendation, and one relationship at a time.
Medical cannabis has become woven into everyday life across Oklahoma not because of politics or headlines, but because patients have quietly made it part of their own traditions, routines, celebrations, and healing.
Being asked to contribute to this celebration of life was an honor.
To Tara, Ruby and her entire family, thank you for allowing Proud Mary Cannabis to play a small part in celebrating a life that was clearly lived loudly, authentically, and with love.
May her memory continue to sound like great music, feel like shared laughter, and live on in every story told by the people who loved her most.
